1) Christmas Program
Your site is great and has been a great deal of help for me. I wanted to
share with you the program our Sunday School performed for the
congregation last year at Christmas. We are a small rural church, with an
elderly congregation. Our Sunday School varies each week from two children
up to nine children. Very difficult to have the children memorize or
practice much. This is what I did. The young children were dressed up as
angels, Mary, Joseph, and of course baby Jesus was in his manger bed. The
manger was set up before church, waiting for the children to enter. While
the congregation was singing the children paraded in and took up their
positions around the manger. The older children were divided with equal
numbers on either side of the manger scene. The older children were
wearing hats, scarf's and mittens. The lights were dimmed and a spot light
on the children. Before hand I had written a poem on bristol board, then I
sat on the floor in front of the children. Out of site of the
congregration. The older children did a choral reading while the younger
ones stood there and beamed in their costumes. I found this choral reading
in an old book that I had purchased at a yard sale. Sundays before we had
discussed all the words that the children didn't understand but are
elderly members new exactly what they were talking about. After the
reading the children sang Away in a Manger then invited everyone for A
Happy Birthday Jesus Celebration with cake and ice-cream. The book is
called "Set the Stage for Christmas" by Aileen Fisher, published by
Row-Peterson and Company, 1948.
Hope this may help anyone planning a Christmas show.
Thanks for a wonderful site!

2) Survey for Workshop?
1. If you were sending your staff to a workshop, what classes would you
like to see offered? What General sessions?
2. What are your greatest needs/weaknesses regarding training (songs,
teaching ideas, object lessons, motivation, etc.)?
3. What areas would you like to see improved in the Children's Ministry
department at your church?
4. How many workshops/traiing sessions do you attend per year?
5. What is the most impressive thing you have ever seen or learned at a
workshop/conference?

3) 100th Birthday Celebration?
We have a lady in our church who will be celebrating her 100th birthday
soon. I need some help on how we can celebrate. She lives in a nursing
home and because of the time of year it will not be good for her to come
to the church. I would like to do something during worship to honor her,
ideas of things we can do at church and those we can take to her. Any
ideas for a small expression of love to be given to the church in her
honor. Thanks as always for your response. WAM
--from SSTN: what about sending her a "video greeting card". Tape messages
during during the service from the congregation, Sunday Schools, and from
the church staff during the week while at work? ysic, sarah <><

4) Happy Birthday Jesus party?
Our Sunday school always has a birthday party for Jesus the Sunday before
Christmas. The problem is we've been doing it for years and always do the
same thing. Does anyone have any ideas that they would be willing to
share?? Blessings, Jeannine
--from SSTN: have you considered making Chrismon Ornaments or Chrismon
cookies during your celebration? You can make them with the Chrismon-Kids
patterns. Check out this page:
http://www.christiancrafters.com/chrismon.html
Or make Edible Nativity sets. This idea is from the booklet, "Kids Can @
Christmas Time":

6) Ring The Bells - Song
Here's another Christmas song to the tune of JINGLE BELLS. I am a
published songwriter and write my own songs, so you don't have to worry
about copyright.
Just sing and enjoy.
RING THE BELLS
Verse:
Christmas time is near, we celebrate God's birth,
He became a man, came down to this earth,
He died and rose again, To take away our sins,
That is why we ring our bells, He's coming back again.
CHORUS:
Oh, ring the bells, ring the bells,
Ring them every day,
Oh, what fun it is to sing of Jesus Christ' birthday!
Ring the bells, ring the bells,
Ring them every day,
Christ was born in Bethlehem on that first Christmas day!

7) Christmas Morning?
I am trying to put together something for our children at church to do for
Christmas morning. The problem, our church is VERY small. Total number
of kids=9 (many of which are in the second grade). I would appreciate ANY
suggestions/ideas.
Thanks!

8) Children's Activities during Church - ATTN Carrie
The cloth bags for the children to use at my mom's church during workship
have a variety of things in them. One week each bag had these things to
use and return to the bag: Bible activity pad, very small coloring book
(about 2 by 3 inches), small box of crayons (four or five in the box), a
pencil and a Bible story book. The fun things to keep were: a lollipop, a
small piece of chocolate wrapped in foil and a word search in which the
kids had to seek words from a particular memory verse that they had been
studying that week. My mom also said that a volunteer takes the bags each
week to replenish the supplies. I had thought that some weeks you could
add a small, inexpensive thing like a Bible bookmark or little
plastic church-shaped pencil sharpener or something like that. There's a
Christian bookstore here that carries a variety of small items. Or you can
order them through the mail. Hope this helps!

9) Christmas Play: Mary Had A Little Lamb?
My Sunday School is preparing to do the musical play Mary Had A Little
Lamb by Dan Barker. Does anyone have the music for the play? It is out
of print. This is a great play which tells Christ's birth from the
animals viewpoint. If you have the music or need a copy of the play email
me at sophiabryan@hotmail.com. Its great for 12 + kids.

12) Mary's treasure box?
I'm sure that I have read a story about a treasure box that Mary kept of
momentos that she saved from Jesus' childhood (or along that line anyway).
Does anyone know what I am thinking about? Our Christmas rotation will
focus on Mary and the shepherds (God speaks to everyday people).
Thanks, Maureen
