As many as are offered. We have had 1 this year.

2) 100th Birthday Celebration
I was wondering if it were possible to video a tape of this lady and play
it for the church since it would not be a good idea for her to leave the
rest home? She could give greetings to the Pastor and Church Family.
Also tell how God has blessed her over these many years and perhaps be an
encouragement to the congregation. Perhaps someone like yourself could
mention her many years of service in the church and introduce her on the
video tape. Please let me know how this turns out because I think it is
wonderful when we give honor to our seniors!

3) Angel Wings for a Christmas program

I made Angel wings for our Christmas program last year. I used thick
cardboard (the kind you get at factories that lay on palets). I used a
pattern I got from an angel costume from either McCalls or Simplicity
Patters (purchased at Wal Mart.) Then I bought craft glue and Angel Hair
and glued the Angel Hair onto the cardboard. To keep it on the kids, you
have to cut three holes in the board--one on each side for the shoulders
and the other one toward the bottom. You buy cording (I used silver) and
run it through the holes and over the child's shoulders. Makes BEAUTIFUL
angel wings, but be prepared to itch. Angel hair itches when you handle
it. (It is worth it though)

5) Used Copies of Shining Star Magazine?
Our pastor's wife gave me two copies of an old publication, "Shining Star"
(November and December 1990 and January 1991 and Nov, Dec. Jan. 1989-90).
They were full of wonderful Sunday School activities appropriate for ages
K-8. The magazine is no longer being published, but I wish to obtain some
old copies. Does anyone know how I could find them? I am most anxious
since they are mostly in KJV. Thanks so much. Patti Please reply to

6) Mary's Treasure Box Story
Maureen was asking about a story where Mary looked at mementos from baby
Jesus. The book "Christmas Programs for the Church" , Standard
Publishing,
has a skit in it "Beyond Christmas", Scene 4 of that skit has Mary looking
thro' a chest of Jesus' baby things.
It's an excellent play.

7) Church ettiquette
We attend a small mission church. We have several new families. Our
problem was teaching these new children and their parents about church
ettiquette. I prayed for a way to present this topic in a loving and
caring christian way. God gave me the idea to relate it to going to a
movie. Movie theatres show a mini movie of proper behavior in the movies.
I used this in a two sunday sermon to discuss the ettiquette of movie
going and then turned it around to say that church services were even more
important. We discussed picking up trash, not getting up, not talking,
turning cell phones off, taking care of any business.... before church.
Then at the end of my second sunday we took the kids to see the movie
Jonah- A Veggie tale movie. I told them that we would be watching them
during the service to see if they had good church/movie habits.&

8) Survey for Workshop
Here are some things that I would like to see in a workshop/seminar -
Creative Teaching, Team Building, Praise/Worship for children, How to
encourage prayer in children. I attend about 1 - 2 major seminars a year
depending on cost and time available. One workshop that I attended that
impacted me was on how to make each child that attends your children's
church/sunday school feel especially loved and the importance of
relational discipling.

9) Appreciation Day Tips?
Some time ago there was a list about little gifts to show for
appreciation; such as you are a lifesaver (life saver candy). I can't
remember the others and was saving this for our Pastor for Pastor's
Christmas. I lost it all during a computer crash. Does anyone have a
list?

10) Curriculum Storage?
What do you suggest as the best way to store curriculum? Does anyone have
any really good ideas? I'm considering either grouping them by age
category, story, time of year, or just by each type of curriculum. I
can't organize them by date used because some of the stuff is from before
I was in charge, so I don't know the dates. Any good ideas would help
a lot!-Betty,

11) Disruptive children
To Pam in Arkansas- I used this idea which works wonderful.
Got it from a friend who has been in children's work for years.
Number the seats in children's room. Have two or three candy bars
available for the children to see. Explain you will be watching for good
behavior and poor behavior thru-out the service. At the end of service
draw a number out of a hat. If the child who was sitting on that number
behaved-they get a candy bar. If they did not behave they do not get it.
Draw again for that child's candy bar. They may get upset but I can say
without doubt they will behave the next week. Simple. When disruption
begins you only need pick up the candy bars and show the children. Ask
them if they remember what they are for. Generally the kids will
immediately settle down. You may have to refuse a child a candy bar once
for them to really know you mean business. I have used this for several
years and have only had to refuse a child once. You can give out more
than one prize depending on the size of the group you have.
