1) Angel crafts
The easiest angels I know how to make quickly are:
Lollipop angel:
1. Take a round sucker (dum dum or Tootsie Roll type) and put a Kleenex
over the top with the sucker in the middle of the Kleenex and pull around
the sucker and gather around the sucker stick. It should now resemble a
head with a flowing robe.
2. Take a long glitter pipe cleaner and secure the Kleenex around the
sucker stick with a few twists- make sure you do this in the middle of
the pipe cleaner so the ends are the same length for the next step. This
is the now the angel neck with the flowing robe below.
3. Take the extra ends of the pipe cleaner and bend them into a wing
shape behind the sucker- and twist them shut at the bottom, this will
resemble a heart shape from the back view of the angel.
4. Now make a halo for the angel- you can use many things for this, a
lemon lifesaver, gold cord, small piece of the pipe cleaner, or I have
even used those cute fake wedding rings found a cake decorating store
that cost pennies - attach this to the angel head, use blonde curly doll
hair underneath if you wish. Now attach wiggly eyes if you want or use
an extremely fine tip felt pen to draw a face, it must be fine tip or the
color will bleed easily and make a mess on the face.
Clothes Pin Angel
1. Spray paint standard spring type clothes pins gold. This is the
angel body-
2. Take a photo of the children faces in advance- (many can be in the
photo at once because you want just small faces) or draw a angel face on
card stock and cut out. The face should be about a 1 inch oval shape.
Pinch the clothes pin to open and inset the picture.
3. Fold a small 3-4inch round doily in half for wings and glue to the
back of the clothes pin.
4. Insert a 3 inch peach pipe cleaner piece, by the round center of the
clothes pin spring, and bend to the front of angel and twist into a
praying hand shape.

2) Angel crafts
Make angel Christmas ornaments from angel christmas cookie cutters and a self hardening play dough. Add a paper clip while the dough is still wet and attach a ribbon to it. They take them home to hang on their tree!
Also, make sugar cookie angels before class for the kids to decorate in class with frosting and sprinkles. Let them eat them for a special snack or share them with another class or give them as a gift to someone like a shut in.
Remind the kids that it was the angels who brought the wonderful message of Christ's birth to the shepherds. Enjoy! Linda Lawler Pittsburgh, PA

3) Advent calendars?
HI- I enjoy your newsletters very much and have gotten some good ideas. I am in need of a craft for making advent calendars. Each year our church has an advent workshop where the whole church makes various crafts to take home or decorate the church. In previous years we have used felt with velcro to hold the ornaments, tree shaped styrofoam with ornaments, but we need a new idea for this year. The difficulty cannot be too high as both young and old participate. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks -Nancy from WI

4) Santa and Christmas
A local Church has a very special ending to its Family Christmas Eve service. At the final hymn, while the lights are dimmed and everyone is singing silent night, Santa walks up the center Isle, kneels down in front of the alter where a manger scene is set up. He then says a prayer and silently leaves through the side door. The kids are awe struck and most adults have tears in their eyes.

5) Keeping them motivated

Dear Sundra, I understand your dilemma. The best suggestion that I have for you is to discuss topics that deal with the world around them. An example of that might be to discuss "Do you act the same at church as you do at school?". Then ask them questions as to why they do or do not. Then end with them looking in their bibles for scripture that goes along with how we should act. I wish you the best in your adventure. I suggest that you break into small groups if your class is larger than 8. A lot of times you won't get kids to share if they feel intimidated by too many in the group. This experience comes from being the Youth leader of the Sr Hi group for the past 7 years. If you need any more help, let me know. God be with you and the girls,

6) Trumpet craft
We made trumpets with some yellow construction paper and a cardboard toilet paper tube. Cut out your horn shape on the paper. Each child will need two horn shapes. Then glue the shapes around the paper tube. This gives the horn a nice round shape where students can place their mouths. Peggy - Ohio

7) Candy craft?
Last year we made reindeer candy canes to give out to the children after the Christmas Program. I was wondering if anyone has any small craft ideas that would involve a piece of candy or candy cane to give to the children . It has to be inexpensive. Tweety from Pa

8) Not celebrating Christmas
As Christians, we should celebrate the birth of Christ EVERYDAY, not just once a year on a man made day. (No one knows the exact date of His birth!) If one wants to pass up on the Christmas trees and gift giving on that date, that is his prerogative. The important thing to remember is: Are WE remembering Christ's birth and celebrating it EVERY DAY that we live? and what are WE giving Him EACH DAY? ~~ Rochelle, OH

9) Trumpet Craft/Walls of Jericho
We have a musical drama group who presented a musical entitled Jericho, and we made "trumpets" out of the long plastic funnels available at automobile supply stores.
