2) Active Listening
Don't
just read to your kids, encourage them to be active listeners. When reading
Bible passages, give children motions or have them make up their own. For
example, instruct kids to pinch their noses shut when they hear words or phrases which speak of sin
(iniquity, transgression, evil) and make hand-washing motions for words of cleansing
(mercy, forgiveness, right, justified). Emphasize the bolded words, pausing to
give children time to make the motion.
"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my
transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my
sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I
sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved
right when you speak and justified when you judge...
