1) Street Beggars...what to do? People may cross our paths out on the streets, basically begging. Some are lying and are just after money...but there is always that question...is this legit?...what if I am being tested and should help? Well, here's an idea that can enable you to do "something" to reach out and not be left with that knot in your stomach of "should I have..." Package a variety of items together such as non-perishable food items and toiletries; whatever you or a group decides...even 2 or 3 items.... AND include a message about salvation! Just about every mission trip I've heard about hands out similar packages to those they meet. Perhaps we can do it too - here in our "Jerusalem" --- or at least help someone that might be in a bigger city that sees the need. I saw this on Facebook and several had responded with ideas of what to include. One said a group met at their church and filled bags - then distributed them so everyone had 3 each for their cars. You could have a list of items to share at church and have people donate items - then assemble the kits and redistribute them to all of the church folks to have in their cars. One person gave bottles of water she saw someone out begging - of course you could put a label on it that includes a scripture or attach a cheese & cracker package and a gospel tract to the bottle. Just a thought to share.

2) The One Thing One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14) “If only God would (fill in the blank), my life would be better!” Have you had this thought too? I have been a disciple of Jesus for over forty years. Sadly, I have often had the attitude, Jesus, plus one thing else, will make me happy. If I didn’t get that one thing, I was unhappy. And it’s never the same one thing—oh no, it changes. When I was younger, it was getting my first job, then a car, a husband, a house, and children. Now that I’m older, my one thing might be seeing my children’s faith grow, having success in my professional life, or overcoming physical ailments. If only God would just do this one thing, my life would be better. You get the picture, as each one thing is satisfied, my “wanter” just keeps on wanting! Other “one things” we often wrestle with are rejection of friends or family, broken marriages, mental illness, loss of a job, or the death of loved ones. Our lists are endless. If only I could have that, or this hadn’t happened, then I could serve the Lord with gladness and start living life. If only. . .if only. . .if only. . . Sometimes the one thing looms so large it becomes an obsession. Like Gollum in the Lord of the Rings, who . . .
