Bible Skits for Children's Ministry

1) Harvest Party Scarecrow Races

(Show pictures of scarecrows.)

Ask, "Why do people use scarecrows"? (Receive answers.)

Ask, "What are some things that scare you or cause you to be afraid?" (Receive answers.)

In the Bible there are hundreds of verses about being fearful or afraid. God knows scary things happen to us. Yet, he has promised to be with us, to protect us, and to never leave us. Today's game can help us remember that God is with us when we're afraid!

Divide children into teams. Give each team a set of "scarecrow-type clothes," (floppy hat, oversized long-sleeved shirt and overalls). Teams divide, with half the team on one side of the playing field and the other half on the other side. At the go, first player on each team puts on the scarecrow clothes, races to the other side of the playing field, then takes off the scarecrow clothes and shouts, "God is with me when I'm afraid," then hands off the clothes to his or her teammate and proceeds to the back of the line to sit down. Player who received the clothes, puts them on and races to the opposite side of the field, playing as before. Play continues like this until all the players have put on the scarecrow clothes, raced to the opposite side of the playing field to take them off and shouted, "God is with me when I'm afraid."

2) Skit: King Saul's Bad Choice

Bible Reference: I Samuel 28:3-25:31

Broom Puppets (see directions): Samuel, King Saul, Saul in disguise, Servant, Good Advisor, Bad Advisor, Witch. (Leader and Operator are not puppets but position themselves to the side of the stage.)

Do you know what this is? (show broom). We can find brooms everywhere. What do you do with brooms? (Discuss)

Sometimes during Halloween children will dress up in witch costumes and pretend to ride a broomstick. There are also cartoons about witches riding broomsticks. But I want to show you another way to use a broom.

(Show the witch puppet bag (or hat), and place it on the brush part of the broom.)

This is a broom puppet. We will use it in today's Bible skit.

Thankfully there is no such thing as a witch who flies around frightening people. That's just pretend. But in today's Bible story from 1 Samuel there is an important lesson about a "medium," who is sometimes called a witch, in Scripture. King Saul had a choice to make . . . 3) Lesson & Tract: Dry, Dead Bones

When you see a skeleton, what comes to mind? (Receive answers.)

Skeletons are a reminder that we die. Do you have any idea why everything dies? (Receive answers.) Science hasn’t answered this question, but the Bible has the answer!

The Bible teaches us that without Jesus, we are dead in our trespasses and sins. What do you suppose this means? Trespasses and sins are actions or thoughts that oppose God’s rules or his way of doing things. The Bible says . . .

4) October Community Outreach

Don't miss the opportunity to tell children about Jesus!

The month of October, and specifically Halloween, is a great time for outreach to the children in your community who don't normally attend church. And since the time with the children we regularly teach is limited, don't miss this opportunity to tell them about Jesus either!
Make every minute count!
