1) Excluding Others > One 12 year old suggested having a pizza party and only the kids that attend Sunday school could participate. There are a few scripture references that come to mind. One is when the disciples wanted to exclude the children, but Jesus said “Forbid them not for such is the kingdom.” Matthew 19:13-15 "Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence." Anyone with the plaque of leprosy used to be considered unclean. Leviticus 13th chapter Samaritans were considered to be a lower class of people. Example of the Samaritan Woman at the well. 2) Excluding Others > One 12 year old suggested having a pizza party and only the kids that attend Sunday school could participate. Hi SS teacher of 10. In response to your comments, I think the students came up with a great idea about the pizza party. However, if you invite others who may not attend normally, when they come to the party, maybe they will want to attend the Sunday school on a more regular basis. Once they show up, the other students who come regularly could ask, hey why don't you come more often. That gives them an opportunity to share why they enjoy coming and hopefully it will in turn encourage the other students. Hope that helps!

3) Names of God Curriculum Sarah, Thank you so much for all the wonderful work you do. I was very intrigued by the Names of God information at the end of this newsletter. I liked the sample lesson and am considering using it for our Summer Sunday School which usually combines all the ages together and we have 11 weeks to fill. This curriculum will fit perfectly! 4) Caution Excluding Others In response to the "Excluding Others?" post, I would cautious in excluding the kids that do not attend Sunday School, as there are so many reasons that a child doesn't attend that may not be anything they can control. If the parents do not see that they get there, it's not fair to exclude them- could cause more harm than good. Peggy

6) Excluding Others I think it's important to encourage attendance, but making Sunday School a competition may not have the desired effect. You may be teaching the students that Sunday School is important only if it is fun or if there is a reward attached to their attendance and class participation. Some kids can't come on a regular basis due to decisions made by the grown-ups in their lives. Maybe the thing to do is to make all the students feel special by recognizing them on birthdays, graduations, recitals etc. Send cards on special occasions or just thinking of you cards. Plan a pizza party, or ice cream social as a chance for the kids to fellowship with each other not as a reward. Or maybe the students could be encouraged to bring a friend to a friendship party so you could reach other young people. Blessings



7) Excluding & Define Attendance You don't get a paycheck for not working. You don't get a good grade without studying. Many years ago we attended a church that had a soft ball team. The team played other churches on our district. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring in young men and couples to our church. We had rules though. Of the three services prior to any game each person planning on playing the game must have attended at least one service. Our games were usually Thursday nights. The three services they could choose from were SS, worship and/or Wednesday mid week. Most of the time our young men or couples began coming more consistently as the season progressed. You could use this idea for your Pizza party. However, what do you consider when you say "attend" Sunday School? Every single week? Twice a month? You need to define that. Hopefully this helps with your Pizza for attendees only idea.



8) Excluding vs. Equal Opportunity This is a fine idea to share pizza if all the kids in your class have equal opportunity to attend. However, I know in my class, there are kids who have shared custody and cannot attend every other week because of being with their other parent. They really do not have the same opportunity as other students. Yes, technically, we could say that they should get the other parent to bring them....but realistically, this does not happen.



9) Encouraging Children to Worship? Hi, I am leading Children's church in a new and small church plant in Outer Southern Suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. The children range in age from 3 to 12 years old. I would like to encourage then to worship and am having difficulty finding resources. Would love some ideas. 10) Easter Skits? Hello everyone, greetings from Divine Truth & Deliverance Ministry (Pastor C. Doles, Sr. Pastor) in Jax, FL. My name is Sister White. I am not the Sunday school teacher but I do help out with Sunday from time to time. I am the Youth Director for our Ministry. I am looking for a Easter skit for about 10 children to do. The ages are from 4-13. I would greatly appreciate this if someone could help me. I was told about a play that came from the Book of Ruth. Open to all suggestions. God Bless you all.
