1) Winter Olympics?

Is anyone doing a lesson for the winter Olympics?  I have a very small
class 3-5 kids on average, so I can't really break them into separate
teams for a competition.  I teach 2-5th graders and could use some ideas.

--from SSTN: type "olympics" into the search box of the Archives List:

2) Genesis question?

We are discussing Genesis 1 and 2.  Some interesting questions came up.
Does anyone know a web site that will tell you about the rib being removed
for Adam.  Is men's ribs less in number now then women?
And about DNA.  They were kin to each other.
Thank you,
Sherri

Valentine and Scherenschnitte Art (pronounced "Share - en - shnit")

Scherenschnitte is the art craft of intricate paper cutting, and was
carried to America by German and Swiss immigrants. Symbols of faith were
common in German Scherenschnitte, and were used to convey love messages
towards God, as well as by men to express love towards their sweethearts.
Scherenschnitte cards contained expressions of love and are the forerunner
of modern Valentine's Day cards!  Click on "Scherenschnitte Art" on the
crafts page to get a free craft and to learn more:

3) Explaining the Trinity to preschoolers

>Does anyone have any creative ideas on how to explain the concept of the
>Trinity to preschoolers?

I use the example of the Sun The Sun itself is God-we cannot look directly
at the Sun but we know it is there. The Light the Sun gives off is
Jesus-Jesus is the "Light" of the world. The warmth we 'feel' from the Sun
is the Holy Spirit-guiding us with our feelings.

5) VBS Amazon Crafts?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any craft ideas for Vacation Bible School.
I will have children from ages 3-18.  (At different times of course)  Our
theme this year is the Amazon.  I would like crafts that pertain to the
theme if possible, but not necessary.  I'm looking for crafts that can be
started on a Monday and Finished on a Friday.  Each day they will have
Approx. 30 min. to work on their crafts.  Thanks for your help.

--from SSTN: the Gospel Snakes mentioned a few SSTNs back would fit great!

6) We Shine for Jesus-skit with Blinker?

I am trying to find the puppet skits (and Blinker puppet) for the standard
VBS 1999 program - We Shine for Jesus Any help would be appreciated -
Standard does not carry it anymore and I have checked with several
publishing companies and come up empty handed.  I just found the cd in a
bookstore along with one teacher's book and loved the music and would like
to use the program in children's church.

7) Penpals?

I am looking to find penpals for my preteen age group. We are a small
church in a small town and I would like to find out where I could get
some christian penpal information for some of my kids at church, would
like for the penpals to be snail mail  ... please email me at
strawberry370@webtv.net

--from SSTN: please be careful when exchanging children's addresses. I
would suggest that the parents are put into the process before making the
exchange. ysic, sarah<><

8) Used Curriculum

I am in a similar situation as Rhonda.  I am the Children's Church
Director at my church.  We have approximately 70 children enrolled but
approximately 25-35 who attend regularly.  We are very limited financially as it relates
to purchasing curriculum, supplies, etc. for our children.  I and my
assistant have basically used our own funds to get our Children's Church
setup.  And we've also done this to keep it going for the last year.  I
would be extremely grateful to receive used curriculum or any other
materials that may be beneficial to our children (ages 3-12).  My email
address is:  thall3@lsuhsc.edu.

9) Parents' Day?

We'd like to have a Parents' Day in Sunday school.  It seems that the
parents just drop off their kids and run!  We'd like the parents to see
just what we're doing in Sunday school classes.  Does anyone have any
activity ideas that parents and kids could work on together for this
special day?  We'd take any other ideas too!  Thanks, Christine,
Bloomington IL

10) Sunday School Format

>I need advice on how to make the Sunday school at my church more
attractive. In >terms of the setting, routine , creative ideas and
motivating the Sunday school
>teachers...

This summer we switched to the rotation model for our 2nd-5th graders,
studying one theme a month.  The kids really have enjoyed this format.  We
have art, drama, movie, and either music/ games/ or this month cooking!
We
don't have elaborate settings, we use our regular rooms with a few
changes.
The movie room just has cushions for the children to sit on.  The drama
room has a big stage that some men in the church built for us.  The art
room is the basic table and chairs.  www.rotation.org tells you all about
it!  Good luck!  Cynthia

11) Used curriculum

Free lessons, crafts, activities and classroom ideas are available at
Sunday School Sources, http://www.eBibleTeacher.com/children. Most lessons
are outlines for teachers, but there are some "take home" lessons for
kids. The majority of the lessons are currently about Jesus, but more
lessons are added monthly.

Hope you find it helpful!

12) Spanish resources

>I would to know if there are Spanish resources for Christian kids

I don't know what type of resources you are looking for, but the
Sermons4Kids web site has Mensajes Para NiƱos.
These are object lessons in Spanish.
