3) Teaching Autistic Children

For Dan in Ft. Lauderdale, and all others teaching children with special
needs:  consistency is the key to good teaching for these children.
Check with parents and their regular school teachers to use the same
techniques and prompts. It might be very helpful to be part of the
child's planning team at the local school! (and possibly a good way to
invite others to your class). Since you live in South Florida, there are
two nearby resources, the Dan Marino Foundation
(www.danmarinofoundation.org) in Westin and the Univ. of Miami CARD
center (www.umcard.org). Why not invite one of their instructors to your
class? All states have a state wide Family Network on Disabilities,
where you can find specific, concrete ideas for help. Including children
and adults with special needs in the mainstream of church life is
exactly what Jesus would do! Blessings.

4) Bible Heroes?

My church's VBS theme is "Amazing Victories" which focuses on heroes of
the Bible.  Can you give me some ideas for crafts and fun activities for
1st and 2nd graders?

5) 75th Anniversary Ideas?

Our church is turning 75 years old next year, and we are currently in the
planning stages for a huge celebration.  If you have any wonderful ideas
to pass along in relation to all aspects to this type of celebration, it

6) Games for Ladies Ministry

You could make up a lot of games, by using your computer. I made a game
called, "Women of the Bible Bingo", by taking Women of the Bible, placing
them on a bingo card, calling out numbers and going from there. There are
also games like, giving the bio of a women of the bible and you have to
match the scrambled names to the bio of the women of the bible. then there
is a word search of women of the bible names, then a crossword, using
women of the bibles's names. hope this helped you, if not, i'll explain

7) Games for Women's Ministry 

I recently attended a Women's Ministry and we had a wonderful time
in the Lord!  One game in particular gave us an opportunity to learn
names.  Two women sit in a chair facing each other, but there is a
blanket between them.  You cannot see anyone one on either side.  The
blanket is dropped to the floor or lowered and you must say the Lady's
name out loud.  It is really interested when you don't know each other
and you try to guess.  After three or so attempts, you introduce your
selfs.  We did this with over 50 ladies and no one was bored and every-
one got a turn.

8) Treasures of the Nile?

We are using Treasures of the Nile 2003 because we
only stuy half last vbs, any ideas on what we could
use for props, etc... any thoughts would help.

9) Zechariah's Visions?

Can you by any chance develop, in picture, the visions Zechariah had in
the first chapters of his book in the Old Testament? That is something I
cannot find in any resources I have looked into.

12) VBS In The Park...

Thought I could share a couple of VBS ideas I've done or
participated in through the years.

VBS in the Park:
Our church chooses a city park as location for our
VBS.  We take in everything we need including a puppet stage (folds in
half on hinges for moving), clowns (a couple from our church who do
simple "tricks" and then a puppet story), I do crafts (including making
a huge character cut-out with hole cut into "face area", then I take kids'
picture for end of VBS activity), we have a Bible Story after puppets
and time of singing,(we put blankets on the floor if in a park shelter, or
spread blankets on ground for song time and Bible Story - even for
crafts if necessary, using paper plates in the kids' laps to hold crafting
materials);  move on to Crafts(this year we have picnic tables)
, then to fun outdoor games, and
finally treats. We have a karoke (sp?) machine for music and for speaking.
We do this every Wednesday evening in June and July.  Passed out flyers
about 2 days before the first one. While we were hoping for at least 10
children, we had 30 the first night.  God can indeed supply whatever we
need.  We do carry everything in. Use our Jr. High as "helpers"

VBS on Saturday only:
We had a one-day VBS on a Saturday with minimal amount of helpers.
Had our Jr. High do a skit (we actually used
old VBS materials as our resource), we did the Bible Story, craft, made
a simple hot dog lunch (hot dog, chips, drink, cookies & fruit kabobs),
sang some songs and sent them on their way by 1:30 or 2 p.m. We started
at 9 or 9:30.  There were about 4 adults as I remember, and 4 or 5 Jr.High
kids who helped...we had 20-30 kids in attendance. Sat on the
floor on blankets for Bible Story.

Hope this helps get someone started with ideas. Keep on working to bring
the Gospel to the unchurched children. Blessings and Joys as you work
