God's Top 10 - Understanding God's Love In The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments contain many "Do Nots". They teach us God’s holy
standard and show us how far we fall short of his perfection. But they are
more than this; in these "Do Nots", one can find a positive message: a
message of God’s love. (Developed by Sarah Keith for Kindergarten to 5th
grade) Follow the link below to learn more:

1) Show Me The Way
> Show Me The Way...a plea to parents from their children
> asking them to be there for them. ANy ideas of what we can do?
Every summer our church has a fun arts camp for 5th-8th grade. Most of the
teachers are adult members from church that come in each day for a one
week, one hour class to teach a skill. For example: I taught a class on
glass mosaics*, our pastor taught a fishing class. There were beading,
electronics, weaving, circus arts, golfing and many other classes to
choose from. It's a great way for the adults and kids in a church to
develop relationships with one another! And one way to show the kids in a
church that the adults will be there for them.

2) Books of the Bible song
hello Janine,
My husband and I oversee the Children's Church in our church. We taught
the children a bible song I had gotten off a children's video tape. The
song goes something like this:" 66 books in the whole bible, each one a
special part, so I learned this song and didn't take long 'til I knew them
all by heart." then it goes on to list the books to the beat. We made a
copy for each child. I will gladly send a copy if you are interested. MY
email is donnadteach@yahoo.com.
God Bless!

3) Books of the Bible song
Here's another idea that our kids really enjoyed. We learned "Bible
Break"
and they sang it for the whole church. Even though it was several years
ago some of the kids still remember the songs. The songs are very upbeat
and fun. It is available on Video or cassette/cd, but the video is
actually cheaper and the kids love to watch and learn!

4) Children have no respect. Please Help! ?
I am a volunteer children's director at our small church. This weekend we
held a camp out. This makes the fourth time we have held this event. This
time was different though. I realized that most of our children have no
respect for anyone but themselves. We had so much bickering and name
calling, whining and complaining. I'm not sure how to explain it. The
event went well overall. The kids were not bored. They had a good time. We
have had a few of these problems on a regular basis, bit I guess spending
the night with the kids really opened our eyes. I can tell you that it has
never been THIS bad in our church. We have to do something. I would talk
to parents, but alot of these problems come from the parents attitudes.
I'm not guessing at this, I know the parents. We have decided to
concentrate our lessons on this topic with the kids for a while. I really
need ideas about how to handle this and would love to know if there are
any lesson plans that teach kids that the world doesn't revolve around
them and that other people have feelings. I am sorry this is so long, but
I am really disturbed by what I saw this weekend. Please help.
--from SSTN: our church has a camp out. However, one parent is required to
camp with their child. This gives the discipline responsibilities to the
parents, rather than the
leader / teacher.

5) Fundraisers?
hello,
my church has just started a youth group and a puppet ministry, i was
just wandering what type of fund raisers would be good to help raise
money, so they could go on trips?
--from SSTN: there are a lot of great ideas in our archives at:

6) Fear Factor ...what is the point
I've been seeing the many recent "Fear Factor" posts at SSTN, and
wondering what it's all about; but haven't bothered to read any since it's
not likely a theme I would ever use in religious education. The
show, IMO, is all about the GROSS factor more than anything else.
>" 'ostrich eggs' (whole canned potatoes) to eat..the one who ate the
least
>in 1 min was out of the game."
This, in particular, bothers me a whole lot! Seems to me the kids might
get sick after force-feeding themselves as many canned potatoes as
possible.
Ew... as a parent, this whole theme would bother me terribly.

7) Fear Factor...what's the point?
>I would like to understand the connection with all the gross Fear Factor
>challenges and instilling faith in children. Are these challenges just
>for fun
AMEN!!! I have been thinking the same thing when I see day after day the
different things on fear factor. I dont get anything out of the tV show
for this also as it proves nothing and to think little minds that are so
easily influenced are watching this garbage. Granted what is listed here
is not near as drastic as the TV show but what Christian learning point
does it serve.
I was in charge of our Vacation Bible school this summer and I had a
couple of parents suggest a fear factor concept but I refused to do it.
No basis for Christian learning that I could see and they could not give
me a strong reason either.
this is more for a afternoon of fun and fellowship if you could call it
that.

8) Fear Factor...what's the point
Our VBS topics were FAITH, LOVE, COURAGE, OBEDIENCE, and TRUST. Fear
Factor seemed like a really fun way to practice what we learned.
Throughout VBS there were Bible stories to go with each lesson. This was
fun with a lesson behind it. The Bible talks alot about FEAR so I have no
problem justifying the game.
P.S. The kids loved it!

9) Grandparents Day

kids
>- ages 6-10 - can begin to prepare for that special day...thanks

10) Celebrating God’s Family?
Our Church is preparing for this year’s children’s Christmas program,
“Celebrating God’s Family” Concordia Publishing House, 2000. It’s out of
publication now and I’m having a hard time finding the music for the
program. I have the script. You may contact me directly at:

11) Getting parents to bring children?
The church I attend has a lot of children. Unfortunately, we also have a
lot of parents who do not come to the church building until time for the
sermon. We have been brainstorming for ideas on how to get parents to come
earlier. The Sunday School classes have been organized so that the kids
learn a lot while having fun. The problem is that if you can't get the
parents to come in time for class, the kids will never know it. Also
complicating matters is the fact the approximately half of the kids come
from divorced homes. Therefore, those children may be with one parent one
weekend and the other the next. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get
the parents/guardians to come in time for children and adult Sunday
School?

12) Books of the Bible Songs
WE have been using for the last 3 years Brent Weber's music for the Old
and
New Testament. The Old Testament has more of a Hip Hop flair and the New
Testament is a little rock n roll. The kids love it. We play it during
craft time and then we have challenges against the boys vs. girls and they
hum the songs t help them out.
