1) Bible Memorization Songs?

I teach a class for 4-5 year olds. We are memorizing the stories of the bible. They are all so excited. I was looking for ideas to reinforce their memorization. I heard that there is a song used for memorizing the stories and I can't seem to find it. Do you have any ideas? We are using flash cards at this time. Thanks, Shannon

2) Construction/Building Theme

My class theme for this year's VBS was the parable about the wise and
foolish man. You could start by picking up hard hats at garage sales, flea markets,
and other sources when you can find them. The average price is from .25 to .75,
Then take all of the hats and paint them white. The first night of class,
let your kids paint "your" company name on them. They all have lots of fun, and
it takes care of the craft for that day. You can also contact local lumber
yards (Furrows, McCoys, Home Depot, etc.) to donate nail aprons, that the kids can decorate. The room could be decorated like a construction site, with sawdust all on
the floor, and instead of a table, sawhorses and a sheet of plywood. You can sit on small stumps instead of chairs. You need to have a set of blue prints and
explain to the kids that just like the construction workers need blue
prints, we as Christians need to have a set of "blue prints" too. That is the Holy Bible. If there is anything else I can help with, contact me at gurlfran@txucom.net

3) Austin, TX.

In a recent addition of SSTN, I noticed a suggestion from a Karen in
Austin, TX. I recently found out my husband may be transfered toAustin. I
have been struggling to accept this move, and would be so appreciative if
Karen might want to exchange a few e-mails so I could learn more about the
area from a christian's perspective! I have done some searches online, but
it is so impersonal. I understand if you would rather not print this.

4) The nursery crowd?

I work with the nursery crowd (birth to 3 years). I only have two children now (9 months and 2 years). Soon there will be a new born. The two year old can understand quite a bit, but I find myself having to hold and tend to the 9 month old so much I cannot do the 2 year old justice. Are there any ideas beyond having a helper? We have a small church so a helper right now is out of the question.

5) Activity for Women

> I'm in charge of our next Christian women's group program, and need help finding a
> good activity. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions on where to look.

We have the traditional missionary women's group with lunch once a month and we also have a craft circle where an elderly lady of our church teaches us younger ladies crafts, we are doing quilting now and plan for knitting, etc., later. We also get together once a week for exercise class and once a year for a retreat in the local mountains.

7) Daniel and the Lion's Den ideas:

I did these crafts with my second grade class this past year. After I read the story, I divided the classroom into four centers giving each center a different craft or activity. One of the crafts I did was a drawing of a cave/den with a picture of Daniel and stencil cut-outs of lions. Here's how I did this craft. On two pieces of construction paper I drew a cave/den shape, then I cut out one of the caves which will be the rock covering the den. I photocopied a picture of David praying from the book and trimmed it down to two inches which the children glue inside the den. I made lion stencils which they trace and cut out then later glue inside the den. Then they glue the rock on top of the den- only glue one side of the rock so it can open and close like a door. Then on top of this rock they glue this paragraph which I typed and copied: Then from the den of lions Daniel's voice was heard. "O king, because I did no wrong, my God has sent his angel down to shut the lions' mouths so they would not hurt me."

Center Two had three large lion stencils, scissors, construction paper, and a variety of crayons and markers to decorate their lion.
Center Three had coloring pages of Daniel and the Lion's Den, writing paper to make their own picture book and crayons and pencils.
Center Four had a word search activity with the same theme.

I get the coloring pages from a Bible coloring book which I picked up for $1.00 at a discount store and the other activity pages from various web sites.

8) Retreat Ice Breaker

While on vacation I thought of an idea for an ice breaker activity. (It could be used by adults or kids.) For every two people attending you will need one sheet of paper. Before the attendees arrive cut each of the sheets of paper in half. Make the cuts unique with zigzags and curves, so that each sheet is cut slightly different. (Sort of like a puzzle.) Now, mix up the papers. When everyone arrives they are given one of the halves of paper. The object for the ice breaker activity is to have everyone find their match. In the process of hunting for the puzzle matches, the attendees ask each of the people they encounter their name, and any other predetermined question such as, 'their favorite food?', 'where they were born?', etc. (If you have a very large group, you could use 3-4 different colors of paper to make the process easier and faster.) Once everyone has found their match, they could become prayer partners for the length of the retreat. (If their is an odd number of people, one of the organizers of the event either plays or doesn't play. Or, one person could have two puzzle pieces to 'even it out'.)
