1) Senior High...what to talk about
I was a high school student not to long ago and I wish I had a SS teacher
like you. Unfortunately I was not in SS at that time. I can tell you from
experience some of the battles high school students are facing every day.
Smoking, drinking, drugs, pressure to become sexually active are just a
few of them. And lately pressure to accept homosexuality as normal and
even healthy has become another battle some students are having to face
alone. The truth of Gods word and people like yourself are these childrens
only hope. Also ask the kids or make it a writing assignment. What
battles are you facing in your daily lives? Well I hope I helped.
Thanks, Maria

2) Teaching morals to today's youth
I am writing in response to Daryl teaching Senior High students and
questions of Christian etiquette. Family Life Today often has wonderful
broadcasts that give insights to the front and center of today's youth. I
thought specifically of a broadcast featuring Lisa Bevere, author of
_Kissed the Girls and Made Them Cry_, which deals with sexual purity.
Familylifetoday.com has the text form of many past broadcasts, including
Lisa Bevere, which could give inspiration about important topics, and ways
to approach those subjects. God Bless!

4) Christian etiquette
>HELP ! I have been asked to present to the sunday school teen, classes on
>christian manners, proper attire, communication skills.
Hello, Look at reviveourhearts.com. There is a radio program by the same
name. The speaker is Nancy Leigh DeMoss. She is very good! Recently, she
did a series on the Proverbs 31 woman. I searched the archives and it is
there, it should be helpful to you. This week's (June 16th) topic is
Modesty: Does God Really Care What I Wear? There is a transcript and you
can also listen online. They offer a "Modesty Package" (available for a
$15 donation), and links to other resources, including a modesty quiz.
Another resource you could look into is a book called "Every Young Man's
Battle", written for teens. This is a followup to "Every Man's Battle",
which is a book and has grown into workshops for men who struggle with
purity.

--> "His Name Shall Be Called..."
The God of the Old and New Testament is known by many names. These names
help us to understand his nature and reputation. They define him as
Protector, Defender, Friend, Advisor, Judge, and Savior to name just a
few. The Third Commandment says, "Do Not Misuse God’s Name". "His Name
Shall Be Called..." contains fun crafts, games, and lessons to teach
respect and honor for God to the children in your ministry. Free USA

6) Senior High; What to talk about.
Why not let them make the suggestions. Place a box somewhere in the
church where they can put their ideas on a 3x5 index card. No names
please. Tape the box in such a way that others can not get the cards. Or
you can ask them to slip them under the office door. Present the
suggestion, question or problem to the group ( you may need to edit or
change the wording a little to eliminate any recognition of others) and
ask them how the Bible can be applied. You should have some students who
are fairly scripture minded and others who have gone through the same
situations and so forth. You may find they can answer their own problems
pretty well with a little adult guidance. DAR, Valhermoso Springs, AL

7) Helping children open up to pray
I began teaching a class of 3rd-6th grade children a few years ago. I
have taught all ages over the last 38 years. This class was very shy
when it came to praying out loud. Many children love to pray but this
group was different. How could I fix that? I began by asking them if
they had anything they would like us to pray about. A few raised their
hands. So I took those requests. The next time we met I told them I was
going to ask each one of them to come up with one thing to pray about. I
gave them some ideas; "Do you know someone who is sick? Do you have a
test coming up in school ? Do you have a friend at school or a neighbor
you know does not go to church?, etc. I went around the room and asked
each child. I told them to remember their request. I told them I was
now going to have them get on their knees in front of their chairs. I
explained that talking to God was like talking to a friend. We should
keep our hands to ourselves and listen to the words of the prayer. I
allowed them to kneel. Then I told them I was going to turn out the
light. After I did this (and the giggles stopped) I told them we were
going to go around the room one child at a time and they could pray for
their request. If they were uncomfortable about doing that they could
just say "pass". Most "passed" the first week. As the weeks moved
along they began to open up. Now I have to pick someone from several who
volunteer each week to pray out loud. Those that don't get picked are
disappointed. I notice many are requesting prayer during the adult
services too. Hope this helps someone.

8) Talking To Teens
>I teach a high school SS class and I seem to be having trouble finding
>subjects to talk to them about. I feel like it needs to be in the matter
>of their everyday battles.
Daryl, I also teach the teen at my church (I have since dec. of last
year.) I am just finishing up teaching on the fruit of the spirit. The
Kids have really enjoyed it. And I haven't used any fancy material
either. Actually I got a Pulse book for jr. highers and the kids really
loved doing the activities that were in it. And the lessons put it down
to the teens everyday life. Hope this helps out.

9) Pencil Sketchings of Jesus?
I am looking for information on pencil sketches of Christ that have been
floating around on the internet. The sketches are beautiful and are of
Christ laughing with babies and small children. I can't make out the
signature on the sketches and was wondering if anyone knew who the artist
was. I would like to purchase some of these sketches to decorate our art
room with. Any help would be appreciated. Please contact me at

10) Christian etiquette
I have considered doing a similar program at my church but right now we
only have a couple youth. A lady gave my sister a book last summer called
"The Rules: Time Tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right." It
was aimed toward girls and it was all about proper ways to act on dates,
how to dress, etc. You might be able to incorporate some of the ideas
from the book into your program. The book is also good because it
emphasized spending time on other things besides dating. It also sets good
boundaries. I hope this helps!
Peace in Christ,
Bethany

11) Heifer International ideas
>Our church is planning to start our fall Sunday School session with
>curriculum from Heifer International. Does anyone have ideas...
Our K-5 children will be using curriculum developed by Church World
Service called "Build a Better World" for six weeks this summer. There are
actually two sets of curriculum put out by CWS. Thiscurriculum is
adaptable to different age groups and to different situations like VBS,
rotation, or traditional Sunday school. The curriculum books are free
through the Church World Service website, and the website provides more
ideas and resources. They give such a good variety of activities, and so
many of them are very inexpensive.
We focused our Sunday school mission giving on Heifer International
during the school year, and we will combine this mission with our summer
program. We had the children choose the type of animal they would like to
donate, then we put a feltboard in our Fellowship Hall that charted their
progress. When they were collecting money for chicks, a new chick went on
the board each for every $10 earned. The same with bunnies and then with
pigs. Good luck and have fun!

13) Men's Ties
<< I am a Church School Coordinator and we have an abundance of
men's ties >>
You are so lucky! I made a beautiful turkey on my bulletin board out of
ties (the feathers) for Thanksgiving. I got so many compliments.
God bless,

14) Beatitudes ideas
< <<board ideas, puzzles >>
Good morning: I made a cute bulletin board for this. I made regular
large yellow bees (you could have something written on them) going toward
the hive, which I made out of posterboard and covered it with shredded
wheaties giving it a special 3-D effect.
God bless,
Joni

15) Beatitudes ideas
Somewhere I saw the idea of using "BEE" Attitudes. I don't recall the
particulars but that might get you to thinking.
