1) Jonah and the Whale
>I need a craft idea to go with Jonah and the Whale story for our NightSunday
Use wood or heavy cardboard to cut out whale shapes with a big open mouth
(both eyes looking at you)--leave a space to glue a CD-ROM upside down
(shiny reflective side up) over the wide open mouth. Let the children
color their whales and then glue the CD-ROM on. When they look into the
whale's mouth, they'll see themselves inside! (Whenever they are in the
belly of a whale--or in the midst of another big problem--do what Jonah
did: PRAY!) Members of my church keep me supplied with many AOL CD-ROMs
they get in the mail as advertisements--I've used them for other crafts also...

2) Jonah Game
I wasn't sure how to get this message to "Theresa" about Jonah and the
Whale. A couple of weeks ago I played a game that I found in a book with
3-5 year olds. Take a large sheet, to represent the water, kids stand
around the sheet holding the edge of it. One child is picked to be the
whale...they go under the "water" and hold their hand up and run it along
the sheet for the fin. This is the only clue that the kids will have on who
will be picked to be Jonah. The whale grabs one of the kids ankles and they
have been picked to be Jonah. That same child now has a chance to be the
whale and the whole routine starts over. The children had wonderful fun!

4) Family Month?
I am a Sunday School Superintendent with an average attendance of 240 and approximately 26 teachers. I have been able to convince the staff to "think outside the box" and to participate in a special emphasis for the month of November-Family Month. I would like to teach 4 or 5 mass adult classes on various family issues, but need some ideas of topics and related crafts. For example, we did this type of emphasis and highlighted the book of Ruth for 2 mass teenagers and adult women class and the book of Proverbs for our boys and men. The women looked at the wonder way God can take that which seems trash and make it a treasure--the women performed a craft by taking odd objects and making new creations. The men and boys shared their life's walk as they covered the proverbs.
It was such a hit, I want to do it again. Any ideas? Also, our church's 71st anniversary is coming in October, and the SS has been given the task of spearheading the events for the month. I would like to generate lots of enthusiasm around the anniversary. Any ideas?

5) Harvest Party/Alternative to Halloween?
My hubby and I have been asked to plan a "really big" harvest party this year.
In the past our church has always done the thing where kids come, play games, get
candy and go home. This year our Senior Pastor wants more....he wants us to find
and rent an inflatable Moon Bounce type game. We'll have a Salvation Message and
drama. What do others of you do for a Harvest Party/Alternative to Halloween
parties? Thanks for all input.

Appreciation Gifts
Here is one girl scout leaders received a few years ago:
Sunshine Sack- (place items in a lunch sack and tie with a ribbon)
A stick of gum to remind you to stick with it.
A candle (birthday kind) to remind you to burn brightly.
A match to light your fire (may want to have a used one) when you feel burned out.
A tootsie roll to remind you to not to bite off more than you can chew.
A snicker to remind you to take time to laugh.
A starburst to give you a burst of energy on those days you don't have any.
A chocolate kiss to remind you that you are loved.
A bag to help you keep it all together and to give you food for thought.
Also, my daughter attended church camp and they received little cards with prizes taped on them, such as:
-a pencil to remind you to list your blessings everyday- Eph 1:3
-a mint to remind you are worth a mint to your Heavenly Father- Jn 3:16-17
-A tea bag to remind you to relax daily and go over that list of Gods blessings…-Thessalonians 5:18
-A rubber band to remind you to be flexible, things might not always go the way you want, but it will work out…-Romans 8:28
-Take home this happy rock. Put it in your pocket. Slowly but surely the smile will fade as the love is absorbed into your heart.-(small, glass, flat shaped rock with a face drawn on with a marker)
-A band aid to remind you to heal hurt feelings, yours or someone else’s
Colossians 3:12-14
-A toothpick to remind you to pick out the good qualities in others…-Matthew 7:1
-A candy kiss to remind you that everyone needs a kiss or hug everyday-1 John 4:7
-Chewing gum to remind you to stick with it and you can accomplish anything with Jesus…-Philippians 4:13
-An eraser to remind you that everyone makes mistakes, and it’s okay.
Genesis 50:15-21
Hope these help!

7) Jonah and the Whale
<< I need a craft idea to go with Jonah and the Whale story for our Night Sunday
I used an outline of a whale and blew it up with an overhead projector and traced it on butcher paper that I had taped together. Then the children took turns painting the whale with tempra paint thinned down with dish soap to make clean up easier. They loved the project and didn't want to take him (the whale) down when we were done.

10) Fruit Of The Spirit
When my son was in K-1, we did a unit on the Fruit Of The Spirit,
we make a fruit tree. We make a special fruit for each gift of the sprit,
like for love we make a heart. This maybe something you can use on a
bigger scale on a wall in your room.
