--> MIDWEEK LESSONS

"Super Heroes of the Bible" is a special midweek program which examines
the lives of some famous and not-so-famous people who had willing hearts
to obey God. And by obeying him, they were used in miraculous and powerful
ways to help change the course of human history. It is the goal of this
series to build FAITH, COURAGE, and OBEDIENCE in the lives of children,
and to change the world for Jesus Christ.

1) Crafts for 100+ Children

why not use the ideas of the "Wordless Book" and use either beads in the
Salvation colors on a cord - or clothespin (clamp on)
with magnet on the back - make the pom pom "caterpillar" with wordless
book
colors add some short pipecleaner antennaes and tiny googly eyes.
Fish shape keyrings made from pipecleaner and the
tri-corner beads (or make a necklace). Oriental Trading
has materials, easy made up crafts at very reasonable
rates.   Hope it helps. May the Lord Bless your VBS!

across
tee shirts, use a fabric paint marker to letter on a bible verse,or some
other appropriate saying.
d.Decorate cookies Use frosting, and different types of cake decorating
candies.(yep boys like doing this)
e.Make pennants with the word JESUS on them, or cut out shapes of
fish, crosses, etc.Lots of  different words or cutouts will work.

3) Paying attention

>dear sstn, how could i or we as a sunday school teacher to gather the
>three to 5 years old to concentrate on what we teach?

Hi,
  Greetings,
      I'm a 20+ year Sunday School teacher.To keep a 3-5 year old child's
attention, keep it simple, use pictures, and keep it short, and be animated
while telling the story.Check out Sesame Street, they use several
different
methods to reach the kids.Kids need to be doing things such as hand
motions
when singing, or being asked to stand up when ever they hear the word
Jesus in the story(or king, or whatever word works with the story you are
telling).
Asking this age group to sit still for long periods of time, is very
difficult, their bodies are too full of energy to do that.
Check out some child care books about what to expect of this age group,I'm
sure you can find several at your local library.
Peace, Edan

4) Halloween or craft project for 100+

A suggestion that could be used for Halloween alternative or craft project
for 100+ or adapted for many other activities:

Take the brown paper grocery bags - cut down the seam - make "arm holes" -
cut the V neck and turn so the grocery store name is on the inside.  Only
the shoulders have to be glued together and the kids will have vests.  I
used them for "Joseph's coat of many colors" but plan to use them again.
The kids 7+ can make them themselves with a little help - I made them
ahead of  time for the younger kids.  Then they can decorate them for the
purpose of the lesson or event.

Thanks for all of YOUR suggestions

5) Attitudes...not Beatitudes

I am doing a series on attitudes - not the beattitudes!
I would like any ideas for games, decorations, and crafts.

6) Kingdom of the Son VBS?

Hi I am interested in finding somone who has the Kingdom of the Son VBS
materials from Gospel Light.  I believe the program is from 1996.  If
anyone has the directors book, teachers books, student books, songbook,
craft ideas, or actual music, I would be more than happy to work out some
type of payment for paper, copying, shipping etc. Thanks for any help you
can give.

7) K-2nd Grade?

Can someone please give me ideas for my sunday school kids? I teach K-2nd
grade, and being 17 years old I would think I could come up with some
ideas but I'm at a road block!
Maggie

--from SSTN: there are loads of ideas in  ChristianCrafters.Com. Also, all
of the curriculum series are great for this age group. You can read more

8) Pumpkin Carving Story?

Has anyone seen the religious story that goes along with carving a
pumpkin?  I had come across a copy years ago but have misplaced it along
the way.  My son is at an age now where he would understand the pumpkin
carving story.  Does anyone have a copy?  Thanks for any help you can
provide.

--from SSTN: you can find it in the archives. Just type "Pumpkin" into the
search box:  http://christiancrafters.com/archives.html

"His Name Shall Be Called..."

The God of the Old and New Testament is known by many names. These names
help us to understand his nature and reputation. They define him as
Protector, Defender, Friend, Advisor, Judge, and Savior to name just a
few. "His Name Shall Be Called..." seeks to teach children how to obey the
third commandment, which says, "Do Not Misuse God’s Name". This series
contains a variety of fun lessons, crafts, and games to teach respect and
honor for God to the children in your ministry.

9) Craft Idea For 100+ Children

This is in response to the message about a craft for 100+ children. Not
sure if this will help, but faith and colors of the cross bracelets and
necklaces are very easy to make. All you need is fishing line, embroidery
floss, rope, yarn or string, and beads...lots of beads. Have the children
string the beads on using the following colors-black for sin, red for
Christ's blood, White for prayer of repentance for cleansing, blue for
water/spirit baptism, green for Christian growth, and gold for eternal
life. Another version is to use the following colors: black for our sins,
red for the blood He shed for us, white for purity, blue for baptismal
water, green for spiritual growth, and yellow for the heavens shine upon
us. Or, you could just place bowls of beads out and let the kids string
any color beads on and you could cut out cross shapes from fun foam (or
buy them pre-cut out) or from construction paper. If necklaces are not
your style, how about craft stick picture frames. You can even use a black
and white clip art image of Jesus or something similar to glue inside of
the photo frame. All you need is eight craft sticks, glue, and either
photos of the children or a clip art image to put in the center...to save
money, you can have the kids glue yarn to it for hanging, or if you have
the money, you can attach a magnet to the back for the refrigerator. Most
of us can likely figure out how to make a craft stick picture frame, but
if you are unsure of how, check out:
http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/popframe.html.  You could also purchase a
bucket of Bible fun foam shapes (under $10 with more than enough shapes
for a large group) and let the kids decorate the craft stick frames with
them. Hope this helps!

10) Multiple Ages

Responding to the "Multiple Ages" question--you might want to check out
the idea of Workshop Rotation Sunday School at www.rotation.org  The site
offers info about the program, FREE lesson plans, newsletter, etc.
Basically, you study one Bible story for a period of time in different
modes. Drama, music, storytelling, computer stations--these are all ideas
that can be adapted for a variety of age groups in the same room.  You can
plan out a bible story re-enactment, for example, and easily use all the
kids in the room as part of a presentation.  Make simple bedsheet
constumes with rope belts, and you've put kids in the lesson as well as
taught them the lesson.  The concept is absolutely adaptable and flexible
and there's no curriculum to buy.  I'm finding it really useful for
multi-age classes and I usually suggest that teachers use one story or
concept a month, but that they use different presentation each week to
give the lesson a whole different effect.  Sculpt bible figures out of
clay one week, learn a song another week, have the older kids tell the
story to the younger ones another week, put on a play a fourth week, or
whatever.  Check their website for more info.

11) Mission Friends 2-4 year olds

This is in response to the person inquiring about curriculum for Mission
Friends for 2-4 year olds. If you are not looking to purchase something,
and just want some basic ideas that are simple and fun, check out DLTK's
Sunday School section at: http://www.dltk-bible.com/guides/index.htm. If
you are looking to purchase curriculum an awesome curriculum for
preschoolers that is all about their involvement is published by Groups
Publishing Company and it is known as "Playful Songs and Bible Stories"
ISBN number 076442534X it's got over 70 Bible stories, and it's based on
songs and finger plays that correspond with each story, they are very
cute, and let the preschoolers be active (and what preschooler isn't?
lol). Maybe the only downside is that it does not include craft ideas. If
you are looking for something with simple crafts and stories, you may want
to try "Wow Exploring Gods World Of Wonders"  ISBN number 0764421077 it
has crafts, snack ideas, and stories. It centers more on the world around
children than actual Bible stories, but it's an adorable curriculum
nonetheless. Hope this is helpful!

12) Multiple Ages

To Cecelia:
In addition to checking the archives on SSTN, try the website
DaniellesPlace.Com.  I have used several of their ideas, and I teach a
group
on Thursday night that are aged from 4 to 10.  The good thing about most
of
these lessons is that they have a version for the younger children and a
version for older children, so you could teach the same lesson to
everyone,
but the lesson and crafts are varied according to age.  For small
children,
there are coloring sheets.  For the older children, there are crafts.  I
never have any problem pleasing both age groups.  Good luck.
