God's Top 10 - Understanding God's Love In The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments contain many "Do Nots". They teach us God’s holy
standard and show us how far we fall short of his perfection. But they are
more than this; in these "Do Nots", one can find a positive message:
a message of God’s love. (For Kindergarten to 5th grade)

1) Letters for my sick child?

Dear Crafters,
I am a pre-school Sunday school teacher who needs prayers and a favor. My
daughter Laura is on chemotherapy for kidney cancer that has spread to her
lungs. She is 15 years old and has handled this very well, God Bless her.
However this week we were told she has started showing some heart damage,
beginnings of diabetes and they have extended her chemotherapy another
month. My daughter is so depressed very sad.
I was wondering if any of your Sunday school classes would like to pray
for her, or drop her a note or draw a picture for her.
I know this is'nt the usually craft stuff, but as a mom and Christian I
would appreciate it.
I will give you our  address if you e-mail me.
Blessings and Thanks,
Sandy

2) Pumpkin Analogy

(--from SSTN: this was sent in by a few people, so I'll post it once. It
is also available in the Archives section, but it is worth printing
again.)

A woman was asked by a coworker, "What is it like to be a Christian"?
The coworker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin. God picks you from the
patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then he cuts off
the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt,
hate, greed, etc., and then He carves you a new smiling face and
puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

3) Children's Church Name

We are C.O.O.L (children of our Lord) To implement the name, we passed out
inexpensive sunglasses, which they wore on Children's Sunday, and they
made signs and banners saying "We're C.O.O.L."

4) Bus Ministry?

Hi. Our church is thinking about starting a bus ministry, or right now a
van ministry until we can afford a bus.   Do you have any suggestions on
begining a ministry?

5) Tower Of Babel

Sarah: I wanted to thank people for sharing ideas for lessons on the Tower
of Babel.  I thought they might like to know how the lessons went.

I used the idea that someone suggested to teach the children a song in a
foreign language.  I had a friend come to class and teach us how to sing
"Jesus Loves Me" in Spanish.

This last Sunday, we completed a craft.  I was able to get bricks from a
house that was being torn down and the person was kind enough to break the
bricks in half.  I bought felt squares, tacky glue, permanent markers,
lace and rick-rack and a friend donated other decorating items.

We cut felt squares to fit the top and bottom of each brick, then the
children used the markers to write on one piece of the felt.  They came up
with short statements to write that would remind them of story of the
Tower of Babel such as "Keep God #1", "Put God 1st", etc.

Then they decorated the felt piece with the sentence on it using lace and
rick-rack for borders, and some odds and ends items like feathers, small
fabric pom-pom balls, different shaped craft foam pieces (hearts, etc.).

When they finished decorating the felt square, they used tacky glue to
glue the decorated piece of felt to the top of the brick, and the plain
piece of felt to the bottom of the brick (to prevent the brick from
scratching a shelf or dresser, etc.).

I then asked them to put it somewhere in their bedroom to remind them of
the story.  We learned that God was not pleased when the people wanted to
build the tower to become famous, and that we should always put God first
in our lives.

If time and money allow, puff paints or paint pens could be used to write
the sentence instead of permanent markers.

Thanks again for everyone's ideas and help.

Love, Cathy Bodell

6) Grateful to join

Dear SSTN, I am grateful to be able to join you.  I have recently started
helping in our All Age Sunday Service, and from this news letter I am sure
that I shall gain a great deal from this opportunity to learn how others
have found answers to problems passing on the Good News to the next
generation.

God bless you.
Joan

too! ysic, Sarah Keith <><

7) Rock of My Salvation

Hi Sarah,
I just found your website.  Great idea to have such a place for sunday
school teachers to go. Here is one idea I did with our 4th graders last
year. We painted the name of Jesus on rocks with glow -in-the-dark and
florescent paints and it went with a lesson about Jesus as the rock of
our salvation.  Kids loved it.  To make clean up easier we used Q-tips for
paint brushes.
Thanks,
Kim

8) Youth fundraisers?

I need help in coming up with a really great fall fundraiser for our youth

what you did,

9) Donated Computers?

At our chuch we are in the process of re-modeling to support our new
workshop rotation model.  We are VERY excited about this and I'm getting
really pumped about it.  I want to try to get computers for one of the
rotations.  Does anyone use computers in their Sunday School classes?
Does anyone with the rotation model use them?  Has anybody been able to
have their computers donated?  I've been tryint to find some computers to
be donated but it seems really hard to find a place that coordinates the
donations in the midwest.  If you can help, that'd be great!  Thanks and
God Bless :)-Betty McDermott, Affton Presbyterian Church, St.Louis, MO
