4) Prayer Pretzel Devotion
Pretzels were originally made by monks to ease their hunger during Lenten fasting. They shaped them to resemble crossed arms in prayer. The pretzels were made with flour and water and no yeast because in the Bible yeast symbolizes sin. The pretzel
can remind us of our need to get rid of sin, and our need to repent and turn to Jesus for
cleansing.
As Christians we need to examine our lives everyday. We need to ask God to show us our sins: "Search us, O God..." as Psalm 139 requests, and
receive God's cleansing: "Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin..." Psalm 51.

5) The Purple Socks
We had an evangelist come through last week and he was telling the story of how
his small granddaughter was going home after a visit. It was late and she was
tired. He tried to put on her purple socks, but she cried, "I don't like purple
socks!". She proceeded to take off the sock and put her bare foot into her pink
cowboy boots. He took the boot off and started to put the socks back on her.
She whined, "But Poppa, it's so hard to wear purple socks." He related this to
how sometimes we whine and carry on about silly stuff when God asks us to do something. He told about great men of God and how they had to be "sifted" for
many years before they turned out the way they did. Here is a poem I wrote about this service. I thought you might enjoy it!
THE PURPLE SOCKS
by Teri Couture
I’ve been through a test, and many a trial
I’ve been “sifting” now for quite a while
And I’ve learned in the school of hard knocks
That I don’t like to wear purple socks.
I’ve tried to hear what God had to say
I’ve read His book and I try to pray
I know these are God’s building blocks
But it’s so hard to wear purple socks.
I finally listened, I finally gave in
I let the Spirit talk again
Now purple socks are part of my roots
(as long as I can cover them with cowboy boots!)

6) Chomping @ the Bit for Bible Bucks
I wanted to share what we've been doing in class to keep our kids' attention.
We've been using Bible
Bucks also available for download in SundaySchoolNetwork.com; as I
teach, my wonderful adult assistant distributes the Bible Bucks to the
children who answer questions during the lesson. (She quietly walks behind the
students, passing the bucks to them as I teach.) Last night it was amazing how
the kids were literally "chomping at the bit" to give an answer. And
they know if they play with the money, interrupt or distract from the lesson,
a Bible Buck is taken from them. They can also earn 3 Bible Bucks for
Scripture Memory, and additional bucks for bringing a friend. At the end of
class we allow time to cash in their Bible Bucks for prizes in our
"store." We've color coded the prizes so they can purchase items for
10, 20, 15 and 30 bucks. Last night one of our girls had worked several weeks
to finally earn 30 Bible Bucks to purchase one of the better items. She was so
excited...they all were!
Give it a try and let us know
if it worked for you. You can find the Bible Bucks listed in our Anytime
Bible Talks & Sermons section at: http://sundayschoolnetwork.com/lessons-Bible.html
