"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it" 1 Corinthians 12:27
(NIV).
A game of team cooperation. You need 3-4 players per team.
Bible Point: The Body of Christ Bible game represents our Christian lives. The hoops or teams, represent the Body of Christ, which is made up of many parts: "the teammates." The body works more effectively when the teammates cooperate with one another. Teams are more likely to win by turning when it's the right time or not walking too fast, so as to make someone stumble, and by listening and communicating with one another. And even though only one team will win, this game reminds us that all of
Christ's body wins when we work together!
Set Up: You will need one Hoola-Hoop for each team. Designate a starting line and a finish line, determine the distance based on the age of the players. You might want to make a straight course, or put some curves into it and have the kids race to one point and return to the starting line for their finish. The teams get inside their Hoola-Hoops so that they are evenly spaced. Players face the hoop and hold it with both of their hands at
hip level, for safety purposes. The players backs should be facing each other. If you don't have Hoola-Hoops, have the kids lock arms in a circle and face outward, with their backs turned inward. It is important to stress the need to work together to accomplish the teams goal. Otherwise someone will stumble and slow the team, the body, down!
How To Play: Teams line up at the starting line. All the teams decide which player will face the finish line first.
At the GO players begin to speed walk to the finish line. However, during the race the teacher
must call out, "TURN!" The players must then rotate clockwise one player, causing another teammate to face the finish line. The teacher can say, "Turn!" as many times as
desired, making sure all the players on the teams get at least one chance to face forward.
The first team to reach the finish wins!
Variation of Play: Set up as before, only this time have the teams start with one player in each of the hoops at a time. The other team mates are then spread out along the course to be taken into the hoop by their teammates. The calls to "TURN" are still called out and eventually all the teams gather up their teammates and return to the finish line. (The variation of play represents our walk with Christ and bringing other people into the body of Christ to fulfill the "Great Commission."-- See Matthew 28:18-20)
