A real Cinderella story retold in 5 child-friendly scenes. (Can be purchased
separately or included in Super Heroes of the
Bible lesson plans.)
The book of Esther tells the story of how God protected and cared for the Jewish people during the reign of King
Xerxes. Around 485 B.C., Esther, a young Jewish girl, rose to prominence to become Queen of Persia. Aided by her cousin Mordecai, God used them to foil a plot conceived by Haman, an evil man who intended to destroy the Jewish people. Ultimately, had Haman been successful, our Messiah,
Jesus, would not have been born! The book of Esther reminds us that God works providentially in our lives using natural circumstances to accomplish his plan.
The feast of Purim celebrates God's rescue of Esther and the Jewish people. Purim occurs during the Hebrew civil calendar month of Adar, during our February or March. Traditionally, children will dress up and act out the story of Esther. When Haman's name is mentioned the children rattle noise makers, known as Groggers, to drown out the sound of his name.
Hamantashen pastries are also a special treat served during Purim.
