Click to first read today’s Scripture: John 9:1-7, 35-38.
“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” - 1 Corinthians 13:12 (ESV)
I poured my coffee and sat down for morning devotions. Glancing out the window, I noticed the neighbors had built some sort of structure next to their carport.
I wondered how on earth had they built that in less than twenty-four hours! I grabbed my eyeglasses to investigate. Looking again, I realized it wasn’t a building at all; it was a large palm frond from one of their coconut trees!
Yikes! Clearly I needed my glasses; only then do I have 20-20 vision!
Difficult circumstances often prevent me from seeing clearly too. I often misinterpret God’s plan and don’t understand what he’s doing. I question, “Are you there, Lord? Do you
see what’s happening to my family and me? Why don’t you intervene? How long must I
wait for an answer?”
My
problem is, I need God to give me spiritual eyes to see correctly. Can you relate?
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus gave sight to a man who had been blind since birth. God used his affliction to display his glory.
The man was given “eyes to see” and then believed in Jesus. Likewise, when
we trust in Jesus, we are given spiritual vision too. As we read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit helps us see more clearly. He gives us greater understanding and strengthens our faith. Even so, making sense of our problems can be like looking in a cloudy mirror—we can’t always see what God is doing! Still, He invites us to trust Him when our lives are confusing. Happily, there is coming a day when we will have 20-20 spiritual
vision and we will see Jesus face to face! Everything will make sense—the losses, the hardships, the toiling troubles—and
then we’ll finally understand
and see how God carried out his perfect plan in our lives.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to trust you when I can’t see clearly and then wait faithfully for your answers. Amen.
