Finding Nemo 

Yesterday, I watched Finding Nemo for the very first time. I loved the colorful sea displays Disney created, but more importantly, I appreciated the spiritual implications of the script. This movie could be watched and then discussed in children's ministry as a lead-in to presenting and comparing the parables of the Lost Sheep and the Prodigal Son.

These are my seven take aways:

1. Nemo's name in Latin means, "no one" or "nobody." 
2. Nemo disobeys his father and then ends up lost and in despair. 
3. Nemo reminds me of how we as Christians often "choose" not to follow and obey God.
4. Marlin, Nemo's father, loves him very much and goes searching for him. (The parable of the lost sheep in Matthew 18:12 comes to mind, "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?")
5. Who else but our Heavenly Father would set out on a dangerous journey to bring us back to the fold? The world may call us "Nemos" and think of us as nobody or no one, but to our Heavenly Father we are deeply loved, blood bought, and his! (1 John 4:10-12.)
6. Dory, Nemo's friend, despite being flighty, forgetful, and fearful, is a great example of how Christians should live. Despite her circumstances, she "chose" to remain hopeful, encouraging, loving, and faithful.
7. When Nemo's father found him, Nemo was filled with repentance and apologized to his Father for being disobedient. (Do you hear the echoes of the Prodigal Son? "'I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.' So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found'" Luke 15:19-23.)

Finding Nemo* is a very good movie! I hope you will see it again, or like me, see it for the very first time. Love to all.
