Our Earthly Tabernacle

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork . . .
In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun" Psalm 19:1-4 (KJV).

The heaven's declare the glory of God.

Watching the sunrise burst over the ocean inlet while reading Psalm 19, I was reminded of God's glory, that blazing Glory Presence that guided the Jewish people through the wilderness in the cloud and fire pillar. That same Glory filled the earthly tabernacle tent and later the stone temple where God's people worshipped. That Glory Presence shone roundabout the shepherds, announcing the birth of Messiah. That Glory Star guided the wise men to the baby Jesus. That fiery Glory danced atop the heads of the faithful at Pentecost. And now today, unbelievably, miraculously, that same Glory Presence fills believers' earthly tabernacles, our bodies, to unite us in one holy community, a forgiven people who can worship the Messiah, and who are guided by the Holy Spirit as we journey in our earthly vessels.

"You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" 1 Peter 2:5 (NIV)

Psalm 19 tells us that everyone has the knowledge of God—the heavens declare it! The Apostle Paul echoes Psalm 19 in his letter to the Roman church, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. . . Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man. . . " Romans 1:20-23 (NIV)

"For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NIV).

Today's Bible verse says God set a tabernacle for the sun. The Earth's sun separates night from day, and dark from light. Likewise, we who carry the light of the SON live in a dark and hurting world that needs His love and redemption. The Holy Spirit has equipped us to mediate, that is, be a go-between of God's peace by giving of our time and talents, praying, and interceding for others, speaking the good news message, and advancing the Kingdom in our realm of influence. Let us pierce the darkness!

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for opportunities today to share your Glory Presence. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Oh LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen.
